Valhalla 33
At the end of the workday or heading into the weekend, it’s natural for people to want to forget about their jobs and escape into some non-work-related activity – golfing, biking, hiking, etc. But a good number of the Viking team – just like our owners – choose to spend their free time on the water. John Kasinski is one of them. John started at Viking in 1989 at the age of 21 as the Accounts Payable Clerk. Thirty-three years later, he’s in his sixth year as Viking’s Chief Financial Officer – and the proud new owner of a Valhalla 33. “It’s always been a dream for our family to own the world-class product that we build,” says John. “And our Valhalla V Series has made that possible for us – and for many others too!”
As the name on the faux teak transom suggests, KAZUAL (“Kaz” was John’s childhood nickname) will be used in a casual manner, mainly for cruising to restaurants, beaches and friends’ homes in coastal south Jersey with some fishing thrown in the mix. To that end, she’s outfitted for day-cruising comfort and convenience, with a Seakeeper 2, a bow thruster, a stainless steel plow anchor with windlass system, forward seating (with backrests) and transom seats, a JL Audio sound system (installed by the Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics) and a maximum amount of Gemlux cup/rod holders. And of course, the boat has all the standard fishing accessories of a Valhalla 33 – fishboxes, rod holders, a 52-gallon transom live well, a Hooker Sea Chest System and much more.
KAZUAL features a Kingston Grey gelcoat with a matching hardtop underside and a grey powder-coated hardtop frame. She has Release Marine helm chairs with upholstery featuring Diamond/Bentley stitching, and a helm that boasts a teak helm pod. The Kasinskis took their color compatibility to an even higher level with a grey outboard paint package for the twin Mercury 400 Verados along with a two-tone grey-and-white boot stripe. They also went with a faux teak toe rail to round out the teak accents throughout.
All smiles, John and his wife Janet (far left) and two of their three daughters – Julia (left) and Lauren (right) were aboard KAZUAL on delivery day. Janet was closely involved in the selection of colors and enhancements throughout the boat.
The remainder of the Kasinski clan joined them later, including daughter Kayla Matthews (above left) with 1-year-old son Caden and dad DJ Matthews (center, at the wheel). Caden loves the creature comforts on his V-33, including the custom sleeping pad under the forward section of the console (naptime); he also just likes to hang in the console and play, enjoying the comfort of the optional SeaDek flooring. The custom portlight (below) keeps a nice breeze flowing through the area.
On the horizon for the Kasinskis: trips to New Jersey’s Long Beach Island; Lewes, Delaware and St. Michaels, Maryland. On the fishing end, John wants to begin striped bass fishing this summer and then eventually hunt for tuna. “The best angler on the boat right now is my wife,” admits John. “But hey, that’s because I’m always driving the boat!”
