The V Report - Our Boat, Our Life

Valhalla 33
You couldn’t have scripted this story any better. Viking’s legendary Designer Bruce Wilson, his son David (the current Design Manager for Viking and Valhalla Boatworks) and his young family took delivery of their Valhalla 33 Keel-Bro earlier this month. The father and son worked shoulder to shoulder for nearly 30 years at Viking before Bruce retired in 2018. Well, they teamed up one more time to customize their stunning Shark Grey V-33, which is named after David’s daughter Keely and son Brody. “I couldn’t be happier to be able to share this moment with my family,” says Bruce. “I’ll never forget this day.” Below: The Wilsons celebrate with some champagne before their maiden voyage. From left: David, Keely, Brody, Janine and Bruce.
Bruce’s handwriting is all over the boat, starting with the name on the transom. “He’s always wanted to name our boat after the kids,” says David. “And this was a total surprise for my dad and the entire family. They knew the transom was going to be the faux teak, but had no idea about the name until we got to the boat.” Bruce, who began at Viking as a designer in 1968, was also instrumental in many other aspects of the build, including the selection of Whisper Grey for all of the topsides, hardtop and radar pod. And those black Mercs – that’s all Bruce.
Keel-Bro has split its time this summer fishing and cruising, with several cocktail cruises with family and friends and weekend bottom fishing trips for flounder and sea bass.

“Building this boat with my father was very emotional because it represents everything he taught me as a designer,” says Dave. “When he first saw the Valhalla design, he said, ‘wow, you guys really nailed it.’ But these boats are packed with Viking DNA, from the sheer to the double chines to the overall aesthetics. So I told him, ‘No dad, you nailed it!”
